Paper and Ponies

So today is a beautiful, sunny, HOT day in Portland - almost 100 degrees - but thankfully none of that muggy humidity that we'd grown so used to on the east coast. It makes the heat a bit more bearable. Just a bit.

I went to NW 23rd Street (long strip with lots of great boutique and chain shopping) this afternoon while Kyle was working his second Saturday in a row. Paper Source (www.paper-source.com) just opened a new branch there and had a grand opening today, which was an exciting event for me. As most of you who know me well already know, I love paper. And pens, and markers. And office supplies. And pretty greeting cards. Forget clothes - give me a credit card and access to Papyrus and I'm in serious trouble.

Today was no different - they were conducting little demonstrations on how to use rubber stamps "artfully," and how to use this little thermal embossing thing-y that I was sold on in about .25 seconds. I bought up a bunch of stuff and just had 2 hours' worth of arts and crafts time, while not one but TWO other members of the household snoozed:

I had ridden my bike to the store and chained it up outside, and when I came out, I found something that made me laugh out loud. This is something I've seen several times now since moving to Portland, and I would just LOVE to know the backstory behind this - who is responsible, where the idea came from, and how many of these little guys are actually around Portland:

I hope you all enjoy this little joke that someone has been playing on Portlanders everywhere. I hope it doesn't end anytime soon, because every time I see one of these little stallions I break up in hysterics.

Happy Saturday :)
